2 SAMUEL 7:8-9 , 18
"Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over my people Israel.
I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the earth.
Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?

As we sit here on 4th of July weekend year I want to take a moment and talk about something that has troubled me as I have wondered where the year has gone. People often say that “Time flies when your having fun” I want to change that “Time just flies”. See time does get faster and years do get shorter and shorter. When I was born a year was 1/1 of my life. When I was 16 that year was 1/16 of my life and this year has been 1/34 of my life and as time gets faster I have wondered am I as a man of God who truly believes that my savior will keep me in His arms no matter where He tells me to go, am I leaving my signature or am I leaving God’s signature but then that leads to another question are we as Christians are we leaving our signature on our community? See I can’t even keep up with what day it is. I often wonder what week it is, and I will admit months have changed and I was not aware for a few days. Mainly because I have not slowed down enough to realize what was going on. And yet I am humbled by what St. Francis of Assisi once said “Share the Word of God at all times, in everything you do. And when absolutely necessary use words”. So did I? As I look back on this year so far have I done that? Society makes it easy to get wrapped up in the world and not to do this because so many other things leave their signature before God ever has a chance. See as I prepared for today I looked up a few things about the year 2011 thus far in review: Hangover 2 has grossed $246,000,000 so far.
The top five searches through Google this year: 1. Charlie Sheen, 2. iPad 2, 3. iPhone 5, 4. Groupon, 5. MineCraft.
Top five sporting moments: 1.NFL Lockout, 2. Heat lose in NBA Finals, 3. Super Bowl, 4. Boston Bruins win Stanley Cup, 5. U.S. Open.
Most anticipated TV shows for of 2011: American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, The Young and the Restless, Glee, and The Voice.
So how did I stack up? I helped with camp. Preached a few times at a few Churches. Married two of my former students. But did I at anytime leave God’s Signature on anything? See days are flying by, I mean 4th of July is tomorrow, Sunday is already a third gone, and tomorrow will be Tuesday before you know it. And you and I either sign God’s name to the day or our day just drifts away somewhere and we are left wondering what the next day might bring. And where I look at the past year and see all that has happened I don’t think things were bad I just am left wondering has anything significant happened? Has anyone left God’s Signature on this world. And the sad part is God gives us a chance to have His signature on this painting called our life. Everything that we do we have the opportunity to sign God’s name and leave His mark for someone else to see. So did we this year leave God’s name on anything or did we just let the painting sit unfinished. See we must strive everyday to find how we can put God signature into each day.
See in 2 Samuel God shows that if we allow Him, He will use us to put His signature on whatever we do. See God told David to be patient and let Him leave His mark through David and He would bless Him. Now I fully believe that God has told this church that same thing. See God does have a plan for us as church just as He did with David. But we cannot stop trying to leave God’s Signature on everything we do. And i know for many of you, and I say this knowing that I have felt this way, we are beginning to question God why He has allowed us to go through everything that we have done this year what we have gone through this year. So I am sure we have all questioned but David did the same thing, in verse: 25 “And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, 26 so that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!’
He questioned if God was going to keep His promise. This is a normal thing, but let us not forget that God will use us as Christians to work miracles around this world and our communities. We cannot allow the world to pass by so fast that we never take the time to try and leave God’s Signature. What would happen if next year the top grossing movie was one about God? What would happen if churches came up with a way to make God the most Googled option for next year? Or what if God was the number one passion of people in this world next year. Wouldn’t be great to be the group of people who started that? Wouldn’t it be great to see the God that we cherish so much, that we come out in the heat of the summer on 4th of July weekend, that we study about, pray to, and honor with our praise be the hottest new thing in not only this community that we dwell in but in the world. I truly believe that we can have a better year next year. I know that I am planning on changing a few things. I want everyday to be a signed by God. I want to look back on this day at Christmas and be able to pat myself on the back because I did everything I could to bring God into the forefront. I don’t want to sit here for the remainder of the year going, I really wish I had of done this differently, I wish I would have taken the time to do this, or even better what would have happened had I done this. See none of us know when our time on this Earth is going to be finished. None of us know when God is going to sign our last day, but I have learned that we must live each day to the fullest with God as our focus, allowing Him to close out each day with His signature.
